Below are a few frequently asked questions and answers regarding maintaining and protecting your recently purchased artwork from Dawn M. Wayand Arts:
How do I maintain/clean my artwork?
To keep your artwork looking its best:
- Dust any two-dimensional artwork regularly using a soft cloth or microfiber duster.
- VERY LIGHTLY dust any three-dimensional artwork using a very soft brush to collect any dust off the three-dimensional elements of the artwork. You can use a soft cloth or microfiber duster to clean the edges/sides of the canvas.
- Avoid using chemical cleaners or sprays on the artwork.
- Keep the artwork away from direct sunlight, moisture, and extreme temperatures.
- Consider investing in UV-filtering glass for any framed pieces to protect against fading.
If you follow these steps, you can unpack and display your artwork at home and ensure its longevity and aesthetic appeal. Remember that each artwork is a bit different, so take the time to handle it with the care and respect it deserves.
Can I hang my artwork outside?
No. Sunlight will fade an artwork’s color with time and heat will cause damage to a painting including cracking, blistering, and bubbling, and can warp a canvas. Never hang a canvas painting artwork outside.
Can I hang my artwork in a bathroom?
Yes. HOWEVER, consider that moisture accumulates in bathrooms and can cause mold and mildew to form on your artwork if a bathroom is not properly ventilated. Paper-based art prints can warp or become moldy, while canvases may stretch or contract.
If you choose to hang artwork in a bathroom, keep your bathroom well-ventilated and always leave the fan on for 30-60 minutes after having a bath or shower.
Avoid hanging an artwork canvas near a shower, bathtub, or sink as the steam or splashes of water can damage the paint.
Do not hang framed and/or artwork with glass in front of it in your bathroom as stream/moisture can get trapped between the glass and the artwork and damage the artwork.
